NURSING TEA

We love featuring other artisans in our Greenville store. We have alpaca products and our wool dryer balls, but we also carry handcrafted teas! One of the teas we carry is the “Naturally in Mother’s Arms” nursing tea. Each tea bag can be used twice and gives off a cozy earthy scent.

Nursing teas are widely used to aid in milk production. While it doesn’t negate the benefit or importance of going to a lactation consultant or doctor it can be very helpful.

Just like medicines you want to be careful with what herbs you are ingesting and how you are pairing them. There are medicinal compounds within herbs that will react with your body and you do not want to be blindly ingesting them. The following herbs have been shown to be safe for nursing mothers, but always consult a doctor before use.

So what is in the tea?

The base for this tea is red rooibos tea which is caffeine free and loaded with antioxidants. There are so many health benefits to rooibos tea and will help support your body during this time where it needs to be in its A-game.

Lemon Balm adds a nice flavor and some minor benefits. Fenugreek seed and fennel seed then come in as galactagogues that promote breastmilk production. Marshmallow is paired in this blend to complement fenugreek to aid the milk production properties. Anise seed and alfalfa leaf are then thrown in the mix as fellow galactagogues. Rose hips are added which are great because they are high in vitamin C.

Crowning off this blend is the amazing raspberry leaf tea. Raspberry leaf tea has for ages been hailed as a “woman’s tea” because of the multiple benefits for hormones and pelvic and uterine muscles. Raspberry leaf also contains a variety of vitamins and minerals such as vitamins C, E, A, some B vitamins, magnesium, potassium, calcium, and phosphorous. There are also trace minerals found like zinc, iron, chromium, and manganese. To top it all off raspberry leaf helps boost your immune system.
